Seminar - From the inside looking out - viticulture R & D from a winery perspective
Geoff McCorkelle, Riverina viticulturist for McWilliams, Griffith, visited the National Wine & Grape Industry Centre to present a seminar titled 'From the inside looking out - viticulture R & D from a winery perspective'.
The seminar will covered the role that McWilliams has played in viticulture research and identify potential areas of future research of importance to the grape growing industry.

Shoot Growth Dynamics And The Carbon Balance Of Semillon GrapevinesDr Dennis Greer will provide a seminar titled 'Shoot growth dynamics and the carbon balance of Semillon grapevines'.

Seminar - Shoot Growth Dynamics And The Carbon Balance Of Semillon Grapevines

Part 3

Part 4

Synopsis

Dr Dennis Greer will compare the leaf appearance, leaf expansion and stem extension patterns of fruiting and vegetative vines and model these processes using kinetic analyses of the patterns. From photosynthetic and biomass measurements and estimates, carbon acquisition and sequestration will be assessed to determine the net carbon balance of Semillon shoots over the growing season. This will reveal when and by how much the vines are dependent on reserves to support initial growth and how much of the carbon available was used to support reproductive growth.

Seminar 'The physiology of alcohol revisited' by Prof Paula Carvalho

On 20 March 2009, Paula Carvalho, Professor of Medicine at the University of Washington, held a seminar titled ‘The physiology of alcohol revisited’. Prof Carvalho’s presentation included a brief history of wine, consider the affect of alcohol on respiratory physiology, the health affects of alcohol and examined the principles of the breathalyser.
